Inadequate Hazard Warnings for Car Care Products

Norwegian and Swedish environmental agencies have criticized the packaging and labeling of car care products that are sold in both countries.

The Norwegian study showed that nine of ten imported articles are labeled incorrectly. For example, many of them are inadequately child-proofed. The Norwegians examined a total of 119 articles, including automotive paints, polishes, and cleaners.

Their colleagues at the KEMI, a Swedish chemicals agency, found similar issues. Some articles sold on the Internet had no safety or risk labeling at all. KEMI examined products from 40 manufacturers, importers, and dealers. Most of the anti-rust agents, sealants, cleaners, and car waxes violated CLP rules.
