EU Prohibits Thermal Paper: Law Takes Effect in January 2017

The EU commission has amended Annex XVII of REACH so that as of January 2020, thermal paper that contains bisphenol A (BPA) in a concentration greater than or equal to 0.02% by weight may no longer be marketed. The limitation is equal to a prohibition.

German studies show that receipts printed on thermal paper continue to show a relatively high content of BPA, even though no one disputes the hormonal effects and dangers of the substance. Our blog reported on the matter in July.
